SPEAKER BIO:

Elizabeth Jonasson Rosas presently serves as the Deputy General Manager-External Affairs for Westlands Water District. Elizabeth also represents the Roosevelt High region on the Fresno Unified School District Board, the third largest school district in California.

Born in San Bernardino, California, Elizabeth has lived and studied in five countries. During her summer studies at California State University, Fresno, she was moved by the friendliness and vitality of Fresno and decided to make it her home upon earning her bachelor’s degree from the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México in Mexico City.

With her international background and entrepreneurial instincts, Elizabeth began Jonasson Consulting to serve the thriving Fresno business community interested in capturing a larger portion of the Hispanic Market with expansion into Mexico. Impressed with her experience, she was invited to join the City of Fresno to do community outreach and Spanish-language media relations. She continued to use her media and outreach experience joining Coalition for Clean Air, a statewide policy advocacy organization. Her experience serving in a regional capacity served her well as she joined the then small San Joaquin Valley office of the California High-Speed Rail Authority as an Information Officer. For her work there she was named the State Public Information Officer of the Year for 2015.

Elizabeth then spent over 5 years in various capacities at Fresno Economic Opportunities Commission, addressing poverty in our County. From there she went to join the largest agricultural water district in the nation, Westlands Water District, aiming to bring attention and solutions to critical water issues in the State.

Elizabeth actively participates in numerous civic and professional organizations and has served on various local and regional committees. Elizabeth was honored as the 2010 Rising Star from the California Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and as part of Business Street Online's 40 under 40 class of 2017.

Elizabeth completed her MBA studies at California State University, Fresno where she received the Craig School of Business Graduate Dean's Medal for her academic efforts and community involvement. Elizabeth returned to the Craig School of Business as an adjunct faculty before being elected to the Fresno Unified School Board.
