SPEAKER BIO:
Houry Alanjian Sanderson was born in Beirut, Lebanon where she
attended local private Armenian schools until her 7th grade when her family moved to the United States. The family’s move was predetermined long before she was born and the family was well prepared in making their transition to the United States.
Houry attended and completed middle school in San Francisco and later
started high school there, but when the family moved to Fresno in 1977,
Houry finished her high school years at Hoover High in Fresno California.
Houry graduated from California State University, Fresno, with a major in
Business Administration and minor in Psychology and then went on to
complete her legal studies at San Joaquin College of Law in 1987. Houry
first worked in private practice for the law firm of Tom Campagne, then for
the County Counsel’s Office, and finally for the District Attorney’s Office
starting in 1990, where she held numerous positions and ultimately was
selected to serve as Chief Deputy District attorney in charge of several
units, supervising 26 attorneys.
Judge Sanderson was appointed to the Fresno bench in October 2005,
has served in misdemeanor and felony home court assignments, and
was in a general trial assignment, until her appointment to serve as the
Assistant Presiding judge starting January of 2022. She has also served
as the Supervising Felony Judge since April of 2020.
Judge Sanderson is married to former Deputy District Attorney James
Sanderson and has two stepsons and seven grandsons. Jim and
Houry enjoy traveling and spending time with their fur babies; at the
moment cats only, Leo and Teddy.
